Would you Deer Hunt with an AR?
Posted by DDH Staff
On Friday, Remington announced the release of the Model R-25, a modular repeating rifle designed for big game hunters. The AR-style rifle is available in .243 Win., 7mm-08 Remington and .308 Win. -- three of today’s most popular short action hunting cartridges. According to Remington, the entire rifle was designed with big game hunters in mind, and includes the most advanced design aspects of 308 Win. Style AR rifles available today. The R-25 features a precision-crafted 20 inch barrel with a recessed hunting crown that’s free-floated within a machined-aluminum fore-end tube. Six longitudinal flutes forward of the gas block provide increased rigidity and weight reduction while promoting rapid barrel cooling. Each Model R-25 is completely covered in Mossy Oak Treestand camouflage. The rifles come with a four-round magazine and are compatible with all aftermarket AR 308 Win. type magazines and accessories. MSRP is about $1,500. These rifles will certainly have the ballistic capability to kill deer, but I wonder how they will be received by the deer hunting community. Would you purchase one for deer hunting?
